Check your airline miles too. I had a bunch set to expire and subscribed to the economist using them...so it cost me nothing. (It cost me very few miles...and I didn't have enough for a ticket or upgrade with that airline anyhow.)

Looks like a good deal. But... why? Why is the magazine selling itself for only a dollar per issue, forever? It has to cost nearly that much just to mail. There's no promo code, there's no "STUDENT SPECIAL," there's no date at which it will end. Just a big box asking for your credit card information.

How sure are we that this is legitimate?

Edit: Turns out if you go to the economist website and click subscriptions, you're taken to economistsubscriptions.com - so I guess it's just a really good deal!

I guess I'm putting some faith in the slickdeal.com community. (Their ears should be attuned to concerns like this one).

I think it's auto-renewing. Better than a similarly price annual deal due to this offer's flexibility.

Though, all of this isn't as nearly as cool as getting a free subscription. =P

Also, the majority of funds come from advertising, I imagine. They're likely willing to sell the magazine at a loss or break-even to increase their circulation so they can sell their ads for more. Magazines like the Economist typically have a very small swath of the general population - on the whole, probably largely educated and fairly affluent. Advertisers are likely to pay significantly more for something like this when compared to readers digest.

They have some good articles sometimes. This weeks issue (maybe last weeks) had a big write-up on how the US has too many crimes and the economic impact of jailing so many people. I found it interesting at least.

The BEST way to prepare for RC, is still to read A LOT of official LSAT RC passages.

your local library branch almost certainly has a subscription, and online accessibility too. Don't waste your private dollars on goods that are already available to the public for free!

If English is not your native language then reading economist may benefit you otherwise it provides no help for test like LSAT. The complexity of expression, compound sentences are not part of economist. Better you read few passages from previously administered LSATs.

As a kid, I enjoyed annotating library picture books with my crayons. My parents didn't like this-- and neither did the folks at the library. Now, when it comes to circling, underlining, and jotting in the margins-- practice of LSAT RC procedures-- I make sure to distinguish between personal property and library property. ^_^
