taking the lsat in Oct: SCARED AS HELL.

Where should I be at this point? I feel like I'm behind already. I've just started the Logic Powerscore book, literally on the first chapter. I just got the LSATproctor dvd, and at least 20+ practice tests. My question is how much time should I be spending daily studying? After I finish the Bibles I was planning on doing all the tests times for all of September.

also, I have kids, and work a hectic 8 hour day with a nagging wife!

I'M SCARED GOD DAMMIT!!!

Deep breath, man, you'll be alright! What's your diagnostic at and what's your goal? If you're throwing down a cold 175, you probably can go relax for a few months. If it's a 125, you got some work ahead of you. I think the biggest thing is to stay calm and not get into OMFG mode; it'll just make you less efficient and add unnecessary stress.

no diagnostic yet! haven't even looked at a practice test...my goal has got to be to score a buck 70 at least. (170).

Well, you might want to take a diagnostic before starting studying to know what type of work you have ahead of you.

No one is really going to be able to help you until we know where you stand now in relation to your goals. As Patriot and Crying Monkey mentioned, the amount of work you are going to need to put in could vary considerably. There are a lot of great threads on here that give you insight into how to set up a study plan. The LGB is pretty much considered an essential to learning Logic Games. Most of my study though was doing 2-3 preptests per week under timed conditions, and (this is key) careful review of every question I struggled with, whether or not I had the correct answer.

Well you should start by taking a diagnostic to see where you stand. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and all that bullshit.

You have more than enough days to study assuming your commitments to work and family don't preclude you from putting in the requisite study time. Because you have other commitments in your life I think it would help you if you created a study schedule. Having a well defined part of your day in which you'll study the LSAT will help you to avoid getting distracted by your job and family.

so...I need to take a test to see where I stand?

If I were to guess conservatively, I'd say my range would be between 130 and 150.

So, with that info considered, where should I be? I'll get started on the PT to get the real score while I'm into this powerscore book.

If you are below a 150, you are probably unlikely to hit 170 in the little amount of time left with your full time job and family. You should probably wait for another test where you can study more appropriately.

+1

Going off what people have posted on this forum, the most you can "usually" improve is 10-15 points.

Take one of the Kaplan proctored tests. Theyre administered on Saturday mornings and you'll be "forced" to stick to LSAT timing guidelines.

Just use the books, use this site as a guide and you'll be fine.

Good luck!

I also have kids and a wife and work a full day and am taking the test in October. I started prep with the Princeton Review's 2011 book (got it from the library) and finished it about a week ago. I then took the first practice test from that book timed (but not enforced) over a few days (getting a full test's worth of time is difficult for me so I'm not focusing on it at the moment) and got a 164. I've seen some dogging on the PR book in some of these threads, but I found the presentation style and voice both approachable and comprehensible. I've been out of school for a good 10 years and I found the PR book did a good job of facing me in the right direction for going forward - reminding me how to break down the questions into their component parts and offering some decent strategies and thought processes.

Maybe you'd find the PR (or some other book, I've been disappointed in the Barron's guide) a good transition book to get your feet wet before diving in to the Bibles.

now if only you study as hard as you worked on that ridiculous pic-post, you JUST might have a chance.

That's quite a massive collection of material. How did you do on the October test?
