Retake in September or October?

I took the Sept 2009 LSAT and got a 170. I was scoring 173-175 on my practice tests, but I didn't take all that many, to be honest. I took the 3 in the LSAT Superprep book and a few of the 10 actual LSATs (all of the logic games). I got a 165 on the diagnostic LSAT on the LSAC site without any prep.
For these reasons, I believe with significant study, I have a decent shot at scoring a 175 or above on a retake. If I concentrate on Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension (two sections I skimped studying on), and take more recent prep tests, I think I can improve my score.
I just don't know if taking the LSAT in October will hinder my chances of admission for fall 2011, since I hear the earlier the better for applications.
