Top Law Schools

I plan on taking the lsat test summer of 2011 and will begin studying now. I'm not sure where to start however. some say to begin with the powerscore lg bibles. others say start with books by kaplan etc. I've done no preparation up 2 this point and really need good advice on where & how to start with the studying process that will lead to a 175+ score. Thank you in advance

Noone can guarantee that you'll get "a 175+ score", but there are many guides on this site that can help. Read Pithypikes guide, its very useful. Also, read the "How I got a 180" articles.

I'd definitely recommend starting with the Powerscore Bibles since they do a good job of helping you get the LSAT fundamentals down. You have a year, so thats plenty of time. For now just focus on getting accustomed to LSAT questions and how they require you to think. Dont worry so much about your score.

Stop typing. Walk to your bathroom. Look into the mirror. Ask yourself, "Am I a big tool?" If the answer is no, then please do not think about the LSAT for at least another 6 months.

Nobody needs/should use one year to prepare.

Thank You! I know a 175 score couldn't be guaranteed, but I plan on studying very hard to get the best possible score. I just want to make sure I study the right way. Thanks I think I'll order the powerscore bibles then.

I understand where you're coming from. I plan on starting slow. My professors tell me you can never start too early. I'm extremely nervous about this test...

As long as you understand how ridiculous it is...

Generally speaking, you need 3-4 months. You can do 6 months and spread it out so you have a lighter load, which some people may prefer. If you are doing an entire YEAR, then you are really spreading yourself thin, but whatever floats your boat. Like others have said, start with the PowerScore Bibles for an introduction. Get your hands on as many practice tests as you can and take a diagnostic to see where you are at. Then dive into the Bibles and start small. Small sets of questions at a time, untimed. You wanna get a feel for the questions first before you start timing yourself. Basically, just build up from there until you are taking full length, timed tests (with an additional section to simulate the experimental).

Here are the critical things to do in order to score high on the LSAT...

Read the PowerScore Bibles, especially the Logic Games one.
Take as many timed practice tests as humanly possible.
Intensely review every practice test BEFORE you take the next one.
Master logic games - do some almost every day to stay sharp. These are free points.
Put the emphasis of your studying on your weaknesses.

EDIT: Also, like others have said, this place is a goldmine of LSAT information. There is no question you can ask that hasn't been asked before, and no bit of advice we can give that hasn't been given before.

Start by learning what the LSAT is all about - download the free practice test from LSAT.org and do it. You are likely to find that either you are lucky and have some improving to do or more likely (if your goal is a 175 you have a long way to go). Thats fine - don't stress a year is way more time then you need. If you are ready to start studying then take the earliest LSAT you can (maybe take October) - that way if you want to take more time, cancel your score or retake you can. Take as early as you feel ready - it takes the pressure is off

Think about a course - testmaster and kaplan are good. But even more I recommend the powerscore LG bible. A final note would be to buy the latest 5-10 actual released LSATs (you can buy them from cambridge prep among other companies) and do those timed. Those are the most like the real LSAT you will take on test day.

By all means though, don't start regular serious studying a year in advance, you will stress yourself out way too much and waste your time - more important at this point is to do well in school or at your job
