Too late to start studying for Oct retake?

Now that the dust has settled, I'm considering retaking in Oct. I read a rule wrong on the June test and that's why I scored lower than I had been before (167). I was scoring in the 170s and I think I just need to brush up on my skills and maintain them where they were and read more carefully on the Oct test (easier said than done!). You think I'll be okay picking it back up in August? I felt pretty confident in my skills a month ago, hopefully it doesn't take too much work to get back to where I was in June.

I am in same boat.....misread a rule in game #3 and scored about the same as you.

I am starting to do LSAT prep in August again. Right now working on recommendations, Pers. Statement, to clear mind for LSAT study later.

Sounds like a good plan though...Buena Suerte!

I think a good average time to study for the LSAT is 3 months, but less for a retake. Even if you weren't retaking, two months would still be pretty good. You'll be fine.

Maybe I should add that I am thinking two months of relatively light studying- one test a week (maybe two the last couple weeks) and 3-4 timed sections during the week. I studied really hard for June and I guess I've already made a quiet deal with myself that I will only do this again if it doesn't take over my life like it did last winter/spring. A 167 is a decent score and breaking the 170s isnt worth further sacrificing my dedication to my job and personal relationships more than I already have. It's just frustrating to see the score and know I could've done a lot better.

You guys still think 2 months is solid? If I should start the "light" studying schedule earlier, I can do that too.

I worked an LR and LG section I hadn't seen before these past couple days (along with some brief review of the LRB and LGB). I've not lost much of anything. My focus is much better now actually. There's much less "omg get this one question right for a 175" anxiety. My LG were a bit slow, but nothing to be alarmed about, I still polished off a section from the 20's in less than 35 minutes, just not to the >30 minutes I was before June 7th.

I'm going to pick up intense studying again August 1st. I'm trying to delay as long as possible so I "forget" many questions and passages I've seen before. I looked at PT54 for shit n' giggles and didn't recognize 90% of the LR questions, so I'm feeling OK about my scarce study materials.

its never too late to start studying.

I think if you just took the test in June, taking a break ( the entire month of july) is a good way to keep your sanity, and mind fresh. There is such a thing as too much prep. If you studied for 3 months before the June test, and you were to buckle down and study until october, I would think you would run out of fresh material ( and go insane)

This has got to be a joke. If you were PTing in the 170's, you don't need too much more prep unless your trying to break the 175+ mark. You already know the info. Take 5-10 more PT's before the OCT exam and don't misread a rule this time. It really is as easy as it sounds.

I took my first one in 2/09. Is it too late to start studying for the Oct. test? I wanted to purchase The PowerScore Bible Trilogy and just focus on that and taking lots of tests. I also work full-time so we'll see how that goes if I decide to do this. What do you guys think?

I personally think there is plenty of time.

+1. I don't think you really forget that much once you' re in the 170s. But you'll realize this anyhow when you start preparing again. Take some time off and relax so you won't run the risk of burning out.

I'll give you a +1 as well. I was PTing in the low low 170s before my test. Hit a 162 test day. The day after the scores came out I took a PT for a morale boost and hit a 172. That was three weeks without a single minute of prep. It stays with you.

Totally. I freaked during the games section. I'm normally flawless on it and I missed 7 on game day. I would've had a 167 if I would have kept my composure (I freaked during the test). I kept thinking about what would happen if I did bad. That being said, I think it was a good thing. My original goal was a 170, but I'm going for a 180 this time around. Just have to clean up all the stupid errors.

Ouch.... well, good luck on your retake! Sounds like as long as you don't have another freakout you'll get at least a 170+. Hope your cycle goes well :)
