Unplugging TV

Post by The ASSET » Fri Jul 09, 2010 4:18 pm

If you earned a top score, did you stop watching TV during your prep? I'm not just talking about the time that you could have spent studying instead. I'm referring to whether TV/Playstation actually makes you more prone to gloss over detail in the test.

Do you consider a score in the high 160's a top score? I took the December test, so I watched a lot of television (football and ESPN) during my test prep.

Why would anyone think this is a good idea? Its best to do it in a quiet room and mimic real testing conditions.

Are you asking of whether simply watching TV at some point during your months of studying will affect your score? I do not see how it possibly can, unless I do not understand your question.

I began teaching myself piano (thanks to YouTube) instead of watching TV as much. I am sure that will be for the better! :D

I think he is asking about watching TV during parts of the day you do not study.

I was vague. Let me clarify. First yes, scores in the 160/170s of people who actually tried.

Second, I don't mean watching boob tube and studying concurrently. I meant, during the time that you are not studying. Sorry for the confusion.
Some have actually said that they didn't watch any TV for 3-4 months. Is this too hardcore?

I watch an episode of frasier every week, lulz, I think that is about the only tv I have watched since starting studying 8 weeks ago.

Though, I do watch about 1 movie a weekend. Need to let your mind relax!

I'm wondering what your doing? I mean, I study 20+ hours a week, work 30 hours, work out every day, and take one summer school class. And I still watch a couple hours a day.

I work 40 hours a week study 15 then do stuff for an organization that I am a part of and then read/sleep. Soon I wont have to work and then 40+ study weeks commence! Then t.v. will need to be more frequented.

I watched a ton of sports on TV, the occasional legal drama and Seinfeld reruns. and lots of VH1 storytellers.

Oh, forgot about Gran Turismo and NCAA football on PS2

it's hilarious that people will take all 60 prep tests and review each question's answers several times (literally tens of thousands of questions and hundreds of hours of work) but quitting tv is too extreme

Because I can easily do that, along with the rest of my life (work, school, friends, excercise), and watch several hours a day of TV. Time management is key.

You're going to burn out if you don't turn your brain off LSAT mode from time to time.

I never stopped watching TV when I prepared for the LSAT (170).

The whole summer, some days, I may go to bed earlier, some days I my sleep in and work out at like ten, some days I may not study for the LSAT. But that is pretty standard.
