For TLSers who get angry when people trivialize their score

It just goes to show, for me at least, the psychological affects behind the American Dream. If you put enough effort into it, you can become anything you want, obviously! If you try hard enough, you can get a 180. Call me a pessimist, I see it as being a realist.

"An" LSAT question...when the phonetic sound of the post-article's word is OR sounds like a vowel, "an" is proper.

So basically the OP is sad because people aren't wowed by his score or the difficulty of the test.

Silly.

I wish they would go through the ordeal of studying and taking the 4-5 hour exam. It really is a slap in the face when you prepare as much as you can, battle test day nerves and get a good score that just isn't "good enough."

And whoever wrote Legally Blonde really did us a disfavor. Last minute, a fashion design major decides to follow the boyfriend that dumped her to Harvard Law by swinging a near perfect LSAT score. And yes...people are naive enough to believe what they see in the movies.
what are you talking about?

Yeah, I'm a little sick of hearing, "But Elle Woods got a 179!"

I'm not angry, though. I kind of appreciate it when people trivialize the whole law school thing. It helps keep me sane.

I found it a little unbelievable that she improved from a 143 to 179. I didn't have trouble believing that she was smart, but I was surprised that she was scoring so low in the first place.

I had a student go 145 -> 177, which I guess is in the same ballpark.

It's highly unlikely, but is possible if:

A) She had never even seen the test before taking it the first time.
B) She didn't know she was supposed to guess on anything she wasn't sure about.
C) She picked a lot of answers that were "right idea, but too strong".
D) She basically got a 0 on logic games because she froze up on the first question.
E) She read the first RC REALLY carefully/slowly and then didn't even do 2 whole passages.
F) She trivialized the question stims on LR and ended up essentially treating everything like a "which of the following is true" question.

The emphasis on scoring in the 97th-99th percentile comes with the teritory of being on website dedicated to top law schools.

Well I'm sure you're not even close to tired of hearing about what your score should be from people who have seen thousands of LSAT questions. With that in mind, allow me to note that Elle Woods, a fictional movie character, did better than you on the LSAT. She's not even a real fucking person and she did better than you. This is America. In America we reward hard work with success. If you didn't want a low LSAT score you should have studied harder.

+1. Though I can't really tell if the OP is complaining about TLS members, since the complaint is directed at "people who have never seen a LSAT question." I would guess most people on TLS, and certainly most that spit on low LSAT scores, have seen an LSAT question.

I'm glad I will be competing against some of you in the near future, your attention to detail is disastrous (save the ability of Mr.Kappus to scrutinize grammatical errors).
dk8 wrote:

I'm talking about people who have never taken the LSAT but comment on your score, not the people on this forum.
awesomepossum wrote: So basically the OP is sad because people aren't wowed by his score or the difficulty of the test.
So, basically you have never heard of the error in reasoning identified as: "Straw Man." I was never looking for sympathy and there is a distinct difference between being tired and being sad. Also, asking for someone to be "wowed" by my score is, once again, different than someone trivializing the score I received. The former is asking for recognition whereas the latter is belittling my efforts. I'm glad to have such an observant person attributing little to a discussion. I chose the adjectives I did for a reason.
Patriot1208 wrote: Are you telling me I can't have a pet dolphin that does everything I say?
Yes, of course you can have a dolphin that does whatever you say, including long division...you just have to try
