3.885 GPA and just got a 160 on the LSAT. Obviously this doesn't apply to schools that only take the high score, which are probably what I have to shoot for now. But for those in the top 20 that average the scores, is retaking likely to help me that much or am I stuck with a lower tier school given my low score on this test?

Regardless of a lot of speculation to the contrary, there were quite a few people who got into the T6 with multiple LSAT scores simply because LSAC now requires that only the highest score be reported. It seems like retaking may be a minor hit against you, but retakes definitely do not preclude admission to even the most coveted schools. But you must make sure that you demonstrate a substantial improvement. Some schools may feel inclined to average 3-4 pt differentials. But if you get at least a 168+ on your next LSAT, its likely that most schools, if not all, will not hold your 160 against you, provided that you write a convincing addendum.

Would the average 3-4 point differentials, though, imply that a differential of more than that is indicative of greater intelligence (or whatever the LSAT is supposed to measure)? I'm really disappointed in my 164--I had a 165 cold diagnostic prior to knowing what logic games were--and I know I can pull a 172+ with better preparation. Would this sort of swing seem outlandish, or could it only be beneficial?

Going from a 164 to a 172 can only be beneficial. Especially if you write a simple addendum clearly stating the reason for the increase.
