Powerscore game classification vs. Atlas lsat

I did some powerscore studying and recently picked up Atlas LG book, I really like some of its methods, so I wanted to "map" PS LG classifications to Atlas:
1. Relative Ordering
2. Numbered Ordering
3. 3D Number Ordering
4. Binary Grouping
5. Open Assignment
6. Closed Assignment
Powerscore basic classification:
1. Linear (Basic and Advanced)
2. Grouping
3. Grouping/Linear Combination
4. Pattern
5. Pure Sequencing
6. Mapping
7. Lircular Linearity
The way I've mapped them (for now) is:
1. Atlas Relative Ordering - > PS Pure Sequencing
2. Atlas Numbered Ordering -> PS Linear Basic
3. Atlas 3D Number Ordering -> PS Linear Advanced.
4. Atlas Binary Grouping -> PS Grouping
I'm not sure about the rest ...anyone want to chip in?

Personally, I never understood the obsession with categorizing the different game types. Sure, it's helpful to recognize them quickly when you see them, but how hard can it really be to distinguish linear vs. in/out?
To be fair, I did the LG Bible by section, but I never spent time deciding which was which, and on my 2 test-days, I realize now that I simply read the parameters of the game and began attacking it without categorizing it; it's not like I would have done anything differently between a grouping and a grouping/linear hybrid

Glad you're enjoying the book. I would guess that assignment is similar to mapping, from the sound of "mapping", though we have two flavors...if you tell me a game, I could say how we categorize it.
I agree that some folks (and prep courses/books) can go overboard with the categories - there's a tendency in some folks to thing memorizing categories = mastery), though if you're trying to figure out which PS approaches to replace with or compare to ours, this could be useful (and I enjoy any such geekiness around the LSAT in general).
Happy to help out if you want to pursue this a bit more...

Relating to the conversion between classification methods, anyone know how to classify these games? each set of two has the same PS classification, I need to know how they would be classed in Atlas...any ideas??
Game 3 Dec 2004
Game 5 Dec 2000
Game 1 Feb 1994
Game 2 Dec 1994
Game 1 Oct 97
Game 2 Oct 93
Game 1 June 91
game 1 June 95
Game 1 June 05
Game 2 Dec 98
Game 1 June 2000
Game 2 June 99
Thanks

Here's what I think:
Game 3 Dec 2004 = Binary Grouping (Open)
Game 5 Dec 2000? Do you mean Game 4? 4 = Closed Assignment
Game 1 Feb 1994 = Sort of a hybrid. Basically a relative ordering game, with a closed assignment aspect (3 #1s, 3 #2s, 3 #3s)
Game 2 Dec 1994 = Numbered Ordering
Game 1 Oct 97 = Numbered ordering
Game 2 Oct 93 = Binary Grouping (Closed)
Game 1 June 91 = Closed Assignment
game 1 June 95 = Numbered Ordering
Such a random smattering!

Thats great, thankyou! Although it does make the classification systems difficult to figure out...*sigh
Does anyone have any ideas on the last two sets Id posted? Game 1 June 05/ Game 2 Dec 98 and Game 1 June 00/Game2 June 99 ???
Thanks again Brian

My advice is not too hung up on classification, memorizing the names, etc. In the end it doesn't matter what you call it. What's important is that you recognize key words in the scenario and are able to identify what's HAPPENING in the game. Putting things in order? Grouping things? Selecting things from a pool? etc...
It's like walking in the jungle. Ultimately doesn't matter if you know the names of the things that might eat you -- just know 'em when you see 'em!
Cheers.

+1
Knowing what type of game you're looking at is completely useless information. Knowing how to pick the correct diagram on the other hand, priceless.
