Can someone satisfy my curiosity and tell me what the difference is between a test-taker who scores in the high 170s and one who scores in the high 160s? It seems like once you enter the 170s zone, it's all about confidence, speed, and concentration, not as much about strategy, but I feel like someone scoring in the high 160s isn't low on strategy either. Is there something else at work?

its usually missing zero on the games, and recognizing the few difficult questions that separate the 170s from 160s and learning to beat them with comfort

no weak sections. I can score perfect on most games and many LR sections but not close on the new RC.

upper 170s = you know how to systematically attack each question. you have substantial remaining time after each section. you think logic games are a fun diversion from the rest of the test.

games did me in. I missed five on games, 4 on LR, and 2 on RC.

If I had mastered my games section, I'd probably be at michigan or NYU right now... HTH.

IQ

i don't think going above 160 is IQ, going over 170 is more of EQ. how you perform under stressful condition, how you react to proctors/other test takers, how easily you get distracted...

oh, of course. your english ability. people like me will never make it over 175. because i don't understand the language very well.

I like this response the best so far. I have an inkling it's about being comfortable with the test and going into it confidently. While I don't see myself scoring in the upper 170s, I'll walk in with that attitude.

It's about getting the right answers.

Having the skills to understand the logic to do the problems with no strategy. I only got 176, but there aren't any LSAT problems I don't understand. Almost all my errors are misreading, or something careless. When I reviewed a PT everything I got wrong caused me to think "shit how could I miss this".

I don't think you can brute force your way above 174 with powerscore techniques.
