Cancel or Absent?

Post by jdhopeful11 » Sun Jun 06, 2010 12:29 pm

I am hearing mixed things about which is worse. I already know that I will cancel my score, so is it better to not show up? I heard that it reflects negatively towards you. I am taking it in October, and would like the luxury of being able to take it a third time if necessary.

This has been debated so many times before.

Cancel- Pros: You get to experience taking the test under real conditions. Many people find this helps with nerves the second time around.
Cons: You use up one of your 3 LSAT chances, and schools know that the experience of taking the test can slightly raise your next score (because it usually makes you less nervous the second time).

Absent- Pros: Schools see that you were unprepared to take it that day and know that it does not give you an advantage on later tests.
Cons: Schools have no way of distinguishing between someone like you and someone who just forgot to show up for the test.

Neither option is great, but neither option will seriously hurt your chances at getting into whatever school you want to go to.
