What food will help the brain the most during the break? Are almonds or maybe a banana a good choice? I've heard some people suggest protein bars but when I went to the store to get some, they were all packed with sugar so I decided not to get any

Whatever you have been eating during the breaks in all the PTs you took under simulated test conditions. For me, that's a Clif Blueberry Crisp bar and a small sugar-free RedBull.

I did a bottle of water, a granny smith apple, and some habanero jack cheese. I felt pretty good. It was the right mix of sugar, spice, and protein.

Key, I think, is a good breakfast and appropriate level of caffeine.

Try it out ahead of time.

+1 for fajitas, -2 for Chiles fajitas. You are clearly not from the Southwest/Texas.

Yes this is true... Chile's is about the best we can do.

And +5 for brains. Eat the brains of the Asian kid sitting next to you, Hannibal Lecter style. Remove skull, cut out brain, sear in a pan, and enjoy!

Surely, you are on crack. Everyone know that the best cliff bar is almond cranberry :D . I ate one during the break of my LSATs (practive and real) and it worked out well.

clif bars are the deal IMO.

white macadamia, blueberry crisp, peanut toffee buzz, mint choc. chip if you are into those. flavors for everyone. Granted I eat 2-3 day anyway but they have proven their worth 100's of times throughout these last few months.

I'm trying to decide between a Snickers bar and strawberries... believe it or not, I'm leaning towards the strawberries.

Gotta go with energy bars. I have two cliff bars and a granola bar packed up. 40% of my day's protein? 37 grams of sugar? I won't even NEED to eat lunch or dinner.

I am not sure what the best snack is, but your answer book would be the worst snack.

i could be wrong (it happens on avg 8-9 times a pt), but i'm pretty certain it doesn't matter what you eat so much as what you don't eat. protein, etc, probably won't be metabolized and put to use before the end of the test. however, if you jam yourself full of sugar, you might just crash in the middle of section 5 (depending on your sugar tolerance, etc).

but anyway i think the "protein because your brain is a muscle" is bunk. your brain operates on carbs, not fat or protein.

For me, it's less a matter of using the nutrients from a snack and more about not feeling hungry during the test. A hearty, protein-packed snack is great for keeping away the hunger pangs.

You may want to consider nixing the strawberries and opting for the Snickers bar. Strawberries on an empty stomach, with their high amount of soluble dietary fiber and Vitamin C (which both act as natural laxatives), combined with their indigestible seeds (which act mechanically in the intestine), will set into a motion a gastrointestinal perfect storm, if you will, which will have you praying for a shitter five minutes into your last section.

I used peanut m&ms. I wasn't at all hungry. My nerves and my headache got the best of me. But I forced my self to eat them while I paced in a courtyard. I really felt better after that. So, it may not matter what you eat but I'd advise trying to snack --even if you don't want too.
