Feeling a Little Discouraged

So far my highest LSAT has been a 155, and I am gunning for a 160. I know where I am messing up and when I practice before the test I do really well, but when it comes down to the test, I screw up badly. What should I do? I'm 20 years old and I am a senior next year in school. My LSAT is June 7. I took the Kaplan course and I really am not satisfied although I jumped from a 136 to a 155, I still want more, can anyone give me some good advice?

I regret taking Kaplan honestly. Is it worse to cancel your test, or just take it and see how you do.

I highly doubt you'll out perform you PT scores on test day. I'd suggest taking and canceling to get the test day experience or no showing. The absence won't burn any of your eligibility but you will be out the cost of the test.

So which is better Ron Ron, if I take the test and cancel or not show up? I don't want to hurt my chances of getting anywhere.

Like I said I'm 20 and I have a full year of undergrad left. I don't know what to do I have been studying for months now, but I feel like I could've done more. I want to get into pepperdine which is a 160 and I scored a 155 as my highest. I don't know maybe I could shoot for a 167-168 and get into USC, so I'm considering taking powerscore and postponing the test.

160 won't get you into Pepperdine with the possible exception of carrying a 4.0 as well. Take the time, work hard, and improve your score. You have time before you need to jump out there.

I got a 145, 154, right now I am preptesting at 164-171. It took me a year to get to this point. If you want it fight for it. If you arent ready there is October and December.

There have been several recent threads on canceling or being absent.

It really isn't a big deal which you do, but it does sound like at least a few more months of prep time would be worthwhile for you.

Doesn't Kaplan allow you to go through one more time if you feel you aren't ready to take the test after taking a course with them?

If you are not hurting for money, I would suggest taking either Powerscore or Testmasters.

I think that is if you take an exam and get a low score, then you may retake, not sure though.

Kaplan is balls, I don't want to deal with them again. I am thinking about Powerscore or Testmasters.

Personally, I would take the absence. That's what I'm doing for the June test because I don't want to burn eligibility in the case I have to cancel or bomb a test.

Since you've already taken a course (even though it's Kaplan) and are probably familiar with the concepts and basics of the test you may want to try self studying with the bibles and PTs. That's what I'm doing to prepare for October. I'm up 20 points (143 diag, to 163 avg) on my PTs, shooting for a 168 (still having timing issues). If you can discipline yourself you may be able to save a little money.

Thanks Ron Ron, but don't lie, you're taking the LSAT in October because there is no way you can concentrate when our Lakers are trying to bring home their 16th title =)

I am considering finding another course, but I do want to pick up the bibles and figure this thing out. I started at a 136, highest I got was a 152 but I am consistently at about a 148-150. I want to be at a 162+ to get into Pepp or Loyola.

Hmmm well, as others have likely said you probably won't do better than your PT average and you might actually do worst. Use your best judgement, but I'd take the absence in this case. I wish you lived near me, we could be study buddies!

I need a study buddy. If anyone lives in Los Angeles, I live in the Valley I am looking for study buddies.

Nah, you can do it over if you're not happy with your score, if your score isn't higher than your diagnostic, or if you just don't feel well-prepared. So really, you can retake at your discretion. The only requirements are that you attend all classes (or make up any misses classes) and complete all required homework.

As a personal aside, I really don't see why everyone bashes Kaplan around here. I've had a great experience with their Advanced Online course. But to each his own I suppose.

HK - go to hell.

Oblivion - I'm actually pulling for the Celtics. I'm not a lakers fan, I just think Ron Artest is the most interesting man in sports.

Whatever floats your boat on the prep. Good luck!

Why do I need to go to hell? That was random and unnecessary. :?

I took kaplan and went from 154 -> 168 on PTs. I never broke 170 on my PTs but pulled a mid 170 on test day. I'd say just take the test on the seventh, especially if its your first time.

You are the exception, not the rule though.
