What the heck do you do with your cell phone at the test? Are there designated areas to leave your phones etc.?

Doubtful, but people who have taken it can tell you. I'd suggest leaving it at home or in your car. For some, those aren't options, but there's not much you can do.

I left mine in the car.

I'm in NYC so not driving car to the test... really freaked out about going all the way out to Queens to take the LSAT and not having my blackberry in case I get lost...

Make a trip out there before the test day so you know the route?

Take your phone just leave it in your pants or jacket pocket. Make sure you cut it off during the test though, not vibrate and not silent, COMPLETELY OFF. That will make sure it doesn't accidently go off or something during the test. I wore cargo shorts to the test and put it in a lower pocket and pretty much forgot about it until I got ready to leave.

That's the best advice I've heard yet. Hell, I'll just take the battery out and leave it in my zipped jacket pocket.

Just be careful. If they catch you with it, your chance to get in anywhere could be gone.

This a hugely RISKY strategy because if you happen to get caught with an electronic device then you can pretty much kiss your legal career good bye. The test rules are pretty clear about not having electronic devices.

When I took the test I left it with the proctors. They just kept it up with them while I tested.

I left mine at home when I took the test but realized I probably could have had it in my pocket turned off and no one would have known. It's risky though. There was a story on here not too long ago about some idiot who brought their phone and then tried to take the battery out after she was inside - while the phone was in her pocket. She ended up dropping her phone on the floor, the proctor took it and wrote her up for misconduct or irregularity of something.

Also be wary about bringing it and having a proctor hold it. You're not even supposed to bring the phone with you so if you have an anal proctor (of which there are many) you might get in trouble for that too.

I would advise turning it off and keeping it in your pocket until you've left the site. But if you know you're prone to doing stupid things maybe leave it at home.

+1. There was a guy at my test who used his cell during break, and the proctors wouldn't let him finish the test and flagged his LSAT. I'm sure if you search TLS there will have been similar cases. Do not risk it.

The above posters are definitely correct. If you can do without it please leave it at home. Barring any family emergencies I plan on leaving my phone in the car for my re-take.

Leave your phone in the car. If that is not an option, this is what you do.

There will be proctors for your test room, but there is also a big, head proctor. You give the phone to him or her. That way the phone never even goes into the test room. This is what we were told to do when I took the test.
