Why does the author arrive at their conclusion indirectly. It seems this is suppose to be an easy question since it comes so early in LR, but the fact that C states the author/critic arrive to their conclusion indirectly really through me off even with no other answer being that appealing, I completely overlooked this. Also the conclusion is stated in the first sentence with the support second right?

Ignore the indirectly part, thats the key part of the answer because it exactly describes what the author does. Also, the word by indicates that what follows is the definition of what the answer means by "arrives at a conclusion indirectly."

For the record, its indirect cause the author doesn't actually explicitly state evidence for his conclusion (which is the first sentence), he does it by, as the answer states, crossing out the other options.
