Top Law Schools

Hi all! I'm new to Top Law Schools. Maybe this question has been posted before, but it's too time-consuming looking at old posts. But are there many of you on the DC waitlist for the June 2010 LSAT? I know in the past they have taken people off and placed them in unpublished locations. But with the exam just a month away, I'm starting to get nervous I won't get placed somewhere nice. I can't drive, and I have no one to give me a ride should I be placed somewhere a couple hours away. Right now I'm on the waitlist for Columbia College in Maryland, which seems somewhat doable by taxi. Thoughts?

You can rent a car for the day, costs about $40.

What's cheaper, taking a taxi or getting a friend to drive you there the evening before and getting a cheap motel room nearby?

I can't rent a car because I can't drive unfortunately. I'd ask a friend or family member, but I'm new to the area and don't know anyone well enough to make such a big request. I'm a first-time taker. Thus, the stress!

If I were you, I would come to Baltimore to take the test at JHU. There are limited spaces open... you can take the public transport like amtrak or marc.

Hey Squiddy! Thanks so much for your post. I had been monitoring LSAC to see if spots opened, but nothing had opened. But as soon as I saw your post, I went to LSAC and saw the openings! I actually decided to snag a remaining seat at UDC since that's a few blocks from my house. I know from the Kaplan reviews that the center isn't the best, but I figured I'll be a lot less stressed taking the test nearby than in the strange new place. Phew, now I can worry a little less. Thanks again!

DC, along with other big cities I assume, has been going on waitlists almost immediately. It would seem the reason for this was a few years ago, people could postpone the exam up to and including the actual day of the exam. LSAC would rent enough space for the number of people it thought were coming and then have as many as a third of them change their test date at the last minute. This meant LSAC got stuck having to rent more space next LSAT with no real additional revenue (the fee at the time to postpone was only $33). This was a large loss for LSAC. So they changed the policy last year that people now have to choose to postpone at least 3 weeks before the exam. Now they reserve less space then they think they need and put quite a few people on a waitlist. Then LSAC waits until after the postponement date to see exactly how many people have decided to take the exam in June and exactly how many seats they need. Then they reserve the additional space so that they don't lose out on all that revenue. In the past, they have usually added very metro accessible locations, most notably the DC Convention Center. Probably after this weekend (the last chance to postpone), someone at LSAC will start reserving the remaining necessary seating, and you should find out sometime next week where you will be assigned. Then you will still have two weeks to worry about the best way to get there.
