This is exactly why I tried to hunt as many of the old LSATs down as I could during my prep. Their usefulness lies in their being so different from the current test. While the LR is essentially still the same (although there are a few wacky ones), the LG is definitely different. I honestly don't think they are "harder" but they are definitely different, and rely much more on your ability to diagnose the problem quickly, and draw many mini-diagrams.
A few of the LG's of old don't fit into any categories and are their own monsters. These were my favorite because they were almost purely conceptual and required very little diagramming, just a few minutes of thinking hard.
Also, many people believe that the RC from these older tests was much easier in general. It wasn't until maybe five years ago that RC really started getting ramped up to the overly dense stuff it is now.

I was able to find four of the six publications containing the rare tests in my hunt, and I found all of them at some point over Amazon.com, but it took a bit of work.
