I have an important question about LSAT registration

Ok, so I'm that guy who waited until a week before LSAT registration is due to go to the LSAC website, and now the 6 colleges within 8 miles of me are full, and the next closest one is 32 miles away, so I have an important question about the system:

If I put myself on the waiting list for one of the schools near me, will it also let me register at the other school that still has spots available?

I mean, I don't want to put myself on the waiting list, never get off the waiting list, and be unable to take the test in June -- obviously that would suck.

The LSAC site is just so poorly constructed that I couldn't find an answer to this question, and the the phone lines are closed for today. So rather than waiting until tomorrow to call them, I was interested to see if anyone knows the answer to this question, or whether anyone in a similar position in the past knows the answer.

So, again, if I register to take the test at school X, which is 32 miles away, can I ALSO put myself on the waitlist for a school a few miles away? Or can I put myself on a waitlist first but still register for the other one after that?

I'd really appreciate any help

I put myself on a waiting list at a community college and about a week later they opened a new testing center at a hotel near me and they placed me there :?

I have heard that hotels are horrible and take very long to get the test over with. Now I am going to have to pay to switch my testing center because a college near me has opened up. My advice would be to wait and keep checking back until they open new centers near you. Also when I signed up for the waitlist I was also worried I would never get off, but I researched it and there was not one person I could find that never got off a waitlist. They open up new centers for people on the list, but like my situation it could be a hotel.

Actually, I'm in Philadelphia, but thanks Mike for your response.

Does anyone else have past experience with this kind of situation?

The deadline to register is May 4, and I don't want to keep waiting and then register late ($66 fee on top of $132 test...), but I really don't want to drive 32 miles to take the LSAT when I have 6 colleges within 8 miles.

Would appreciate more help. Thanks.

I signed up 2 months ago and the centers that near me (NJ) were full. They open more as time goes on.

Edit: Didn't realize the deadline is May 4th. I would sign up for the waitlist and worst case scenario you don't like the test center pay the 30 something dollars to switch to the open center 30 miles away

Yea, but what I'm wondering is that if I put myself on the waiting list for the center nearest me, will that PREVENT me from signing up for for a different test center at the same time?

Is it recommended that I just put myself on the waiting list now (only) and then continually check back before the May 4 deadline? And if I haven't received word by may 4 then register at the next closest site??

Have you tried it yet?

If I registered as left-handed, will they force me into a left-handed desk? I hate the extremely small "desks", but since i've had to deal with them for 3 years, i'm used to them, but only the right-handed ones. I don't want to switch it up from what i'm comfortable with on test day? Hopefully it will be big desks though

Edit: Just discovered im registered for a 283 person lecture hall. Should I try and switch my testing center? I don't want to have it take forever and I don't want tiny desks and small cramped seats. What do you guys think?

What is the big deal about driving 32 miles? I drive 25 miles to school twice a week, and I live in-town.

You could book a hotel room near the test center for the night or two nights before the test to save yourself the long drive on test day. Also, just call LSAC and they'll be able to answer your question.

go register yourself at a site that is available and then keep checking the website! if your ideal location has a spot become available, you can just switch to that spot. those spots become available much more often than you think. also, an lsac lady told me that if you have registered and cannot show up in your registered spot, you can try standby in your ideal spot. in most cases, big sites always have people choose not to show up, and you will get that spot.

good luck!

Sign up for the test and get your spot. Maybe you can change, maybe it won't work out. Either way, it's one less thing to leave up in the air.

That said - If you're really that concerned about having to go what is a pretty small distance to take the test, perhaps you should re-examine how dedicated you are. If going more than 8 miles to take the LSAT is too heavy a burden for you to shoulder, I'm sure there are plenty of others who will be glad to take your spot.

I live in NYC and when I registered over a month and half ago there wasn't a seat available in a 50 mile radius. So I'm going to Philly to take the test. If I had to, I'd have hopped a plane.
