149 (2006), 159 (2008), 164 (2009) with a GPA of 3.4ish
Retake? Shooting for T15-25 and had a TERRIBLE cycle!

WIll you be outside of the period in which you can only have three scores? I'm not sure exactly how the rule works, but I believe it is five years and three chances. If my math is right you wont be able to have a fourth score until 2011.

You can get a school to give you a waiver for the 4th time. They're pretty liberal with them IIRC.

I had't heard of that rule. Where on LSAC's website did you see that?

How do I request that? Just email?

I think so, yeah.

You're limited to 3 tries in 2 years, not 5 years.

That's what I thought. Can anybody verify?

You can take it three times in two years so you are good to go.
How many times can I take the LSAT?
Normally, you may not take the LSAT more than three times in any two-year period. This policy applies even if you cancel your score or it is not otherwise reported. LSAC reserves the right to cancel your registration, rescind your admission ticket, or take any other steps necessary to enforce this policy. However, you may retake the LSAT if a law school to which you are applying requires a more recent score than any you have on record, or approves your retaking the test, and the school provides LSAC with written proof of its requirement no later than the last day of registration for the test.

You could call the LSAC to verify. [edit: Or look at the link above.]
As for whether or not to retake, it depends on on what you want. Unless you're a URM, you should have known that your current numbers were in all likelihood going to result in a terrible cycle for T15 to T25 ambitions. Can you accept going to a T30 to T40 school? (To be honest, you're still far from a lock at any given school in that range.)

I took June 08, october 08, february 09, and LSAC told me I was eligible for June 2010 (even though it technically falls just inside the two year period)

why don't you just try to get in the schools you want with your 164? I'd be willing to bet you get in a few.

5 years is how long the score is good for.

op: when you took it the second time, what did you do differently study wise? same with 2nd to 3rd. I am debating on a 4th try. 143 (Dec 2006) 145 (Feb 2007) and 146 (Oct 2008). I'd like to jump 8-9pts, but not sure how realistic that is given I have only managed 3 pts total increase.

Start with the lowest ranked schools, tell them you intend to apply if they provide a waiver. They are likely to approve is since it is in their best interest.
I'd suggest using a spread sheet, cut and paste all the relevant info of each law schools, starting with the lowest ranked to highest. Then, use a word processor to write one letter and do mail merge, which fills in the applicable information. For a personalized touch, add another cell that is specific to each school. Send out 10-20 request each week. I'd go with a letter over email.

i did too on the 3rd try. I was pting at 155-156, but still managed to only get 146 come test day. That's still my biggest concern as of now. I did a diagnositc test yesterday and got 153. It's really fustrating me!
