LSAT studying in NYC

Post by PierceFromCT » Wed Apr 07, 2010 11:10 am

To anyone studying for the LSAT in NYC:

I'm prepping for the June LSAT--I'd like to recreate the LSAT test center feel by doing full-length tests on Saturdays and Sundays at a NY Public Library (I'm a girl, so safety is especially important). Would anyone be interested in attending? I figure it will keep me motivated and feel much more real if I'm with a group and have to adhere to time constraints. I could make copies of one of the real LSATS (e.g. #58, #59) so we're all doing the same test and then we can self-score.

Thoughts? If interested, please reply to this post and we'll discuss what library and what time. Obviously I'm not going to give out my contact info--just letting people know when a group is meeting to take a full-length test. Hoping to get a group of 5+ people. And yes, I know Kaplan and Princeton do this--I've done them and am scoring in the 160s--running out of time in each section.

I tried this. It's tough as the place is as much a museum as it is a library. I found a nice little area on the second floor in the middle. It was quiet and there was about a half dozen wooden tables.

If you're in NYC and are looking to take a class to prep... I really, really, really recommend TestWell New York. They were awesome.

What Public Libraries do you recommend? And I know Test Well charges $50 + cost of test to take a proctored exam. I'll probably do that right before the real test date, but doesn't it seem a bit stupid to pay that much???

Is there any other sort of forum (maybe google group?) that I could reach out to in hopes of organizing a NYC study group?

Meh I'm bringing a guy with me to the library who will act as a proctor, and if anyone looks sketch, I'd just leave. My real goal is to get a study group together of people meeting on the weekends.

Good idea. The NYC Library can be loud, but I remember there being at least 1-2 rooms that were quiet enough. I've been meeting up with a TLS member since October and we've both found it very helpful for staying motivated. I'll PM you our contact information.

As for other groups: TLS is your best bet if you want to find motivated people.
