LSAC to Add Math Section to LSAT Exam

Newtown, PA (AP) - Beginning in 2011, the LSAT exam will include a math portion, a recent LSAC report indicates. During a press conference to announce the news, Timothy Malver, LSAC’s Director of Standardized Testing, explained that the decision to include such a section was made after a number of law schools indicated that students are demonstrating increasingly weak quantitative skills. Malver stressed that there is mounting evidence that a strong mathematics foundation correlates with sound reasoning abilities. He also added that today’s law school students need to be able to pull apart a balance sheet or better understand the numbers that underpin mergers, acquisitions and other areas of corporate law. The envisioned LSAT math section will cover arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

If that happens then it will be phenomenal because LSAT with maths will really rock! Nowdays what happens is that any humanities or social science nerd can ace the LSAT because it has no math at all. I used to think that why Lawyers are speechless when it comes to criticize the Audit done by pricewaterhousecoopers and deloitte etc. Lawyers fear when they see calculus style forumla on excel spreadsheet and that's why they are more verbal skill oriented analytical person. A person who can describe simple sentence in most illustrative and complexed way with 7 idioms and 3 history events quoted in it but this type of personality is incomplete in today's complex and quantitative world. If Lawyers were well taught in Quant as MBA's or CFA's then this mortgage crisis and Lehman collapse would not happened.

There will be little difference in LSAT and GMAT then.

It used to have math, and even general knowledge. It was fucking awesome.

I remember one of the 'general knowledge' questions on the test...

It provided you with an otherwise unmarked map of the USA with varying distributions of dots, and asked you something along the lines of:

"The distribution noted on the map above is most likely to represent:

(A) Industrial Plants
(B) Corn Crops
(etc.)..."

(and no, this wasn't RC-style with a passage prior -- the map was all you were given)

Wow, some of them are awesome. I wish the 'artificial language' section became standard.

I also love the quirky, unusual games.

How are they gonna do it? I would assume they would have to make some other sections easier or something.

I hope they don't include it unless they make RC considerably easier...

I propose linear algebra for the algebra section. That should help filtering out the weaklings.

Or why not combine things? Someone is having appointments only on days of the month that are eigenvalues of the matrix T, shown above. L must come before Q, and R can only occur on the day that corresponds to the least element of the eigenvectors of T.

I totally almost fell for this and had a heart attack...I am so glad this isn't true. The test is enough of a beast already.

According to the clause, individuals who opt to become personal injury lawyers will be granted complete loan forgiveness. The government has vowed to absorb the loans of these individuals to encourage more law graduates to enter into this niche field. The number of personal injury lawyers – sometimes disparagingly referred to as “ambulance chasers”– has declined in recent years. This was too easy to be a logic fail. ANY type of standardized test change is announced years (pl.) in advance.

oh man. That reminds me of a dream I had. One night I dreamt the LSAT was adding a "swimming" section (serious). It tested you on how many laps you could do in my mom's pool. I could only do 17, but I knew I with practice I would get better
