hey guys ive been experiencing very painful neck pain while taking my prep tests and was wondering if this is common amongst prospective test takers. also, would you advise taking an over the counter pain killer like excedrin or advil to alleviate some of the pain on test day?

also, for those who can relate with me, how do you overcome this issue? it can become a big distraction and waste a significant amount of time on test day

I sat for the test with a bruised tailbone. Just deal with it.

If it's a serious problem, maybe checkout a chiropractor.

A little pain always helps me focus. That said, I doubt a little Advil is going to impair your mental acuity all that much.

You just have to man up, honestly. I know exactly what you're talking about as it happens to me every time I take a test, just rotate your head a bit and push on.

I had the worst neck pain while taking PTs and especially during the actual test. There isn't really anything you can do about it. The night before the test I got a massage and a facial and I think that sort of helped the neck pain but most of all it really de stressed me and I felt like I was much calmer than a lot of people who took it. I think this really helped me during the test and I highly recommend doing that.

yeah, i went through something like this,too. Check your posture while pt-ing, see if you are tensing up your shoulders, or if the concentration is making you freeze up in the muscles around your neck, especially on the side you write with. I found relief in a warm shower before, and after. I moved my neck around to get the circulation going to my brain. I stayed away from advil because, for me, it dulled the synapsis. I got a friend to massage my shoulders, too.

I have chronic issues with shoulder and neck pain. On test day, I took a couple of Advil in the morning before I left. Also, I tried to sit in a seat that wasn't close to others so that during the couple of seconds between sections I could stretch my back and my neck out for a minute. Honestly though, I was lucky in that I didn't get any major spasms during the test either time I took it.

I took two advil before the test, and it prevented the problem for me. If you're worried about taking the advil, try it before a few PTs and make sure it has no negative effect.

I took tylonel be4 exam and during break. i still had awful neck pain--i always do during this test. i think it's stress related. posture also helps a lot. it was still painful, but the tylenol(sp?) cldn't hurt.

+1 on the posture, not just during tests, but all the time. correcting your posture will make sure your spine/back/neck are properly alligned and should reduce strain. Make sure you sit upright, shoulder blades down and back. I know it might feel more natural to hunch down over your test, but it's really going to hurt your back.

tylenol is not the same as advil. Advil (Ibuprofen) will help better with muscle stiffness. Perhaps try Robaxacet or a similar generic brand of the same drug as this has muscle relaxants in it.

i guess that's why the tylonel didn't work that well. thanks for the tip on advil
