I've been taking a bunch of practice tests and I've worked up to consistently scoring a raw score of 94-96. This has translated anywhere from a 174 to a 177. I searched the forum using numerous key words, but I didn't seem to find a clear explanation of how the LSAT is scaled. Essentially, I'm wondering, is there a way reasonably predict what that raw score will give me on the Feb 10 LSAT? Any illuminating info is greatly appreciated. This website rules.

absolutely no use in trying to predict it--especially before the test is even administered.

So what you're saying is that recently administered tests, at least to a certain extent, do not have any bearing on how raw scores will translate in subsequent tests?

So a raw score of 96 could easily be a 177 on one test, and then a 174 on the very next test? Yes?

Yes. You won't know what a raw score equates to until everyone else takes the test and they create the scale.

Get a raw score of 100/101 and leave no doubt.



But yeah, no sense worrying about this. I would focus on relaxation and/or anti-anxiety techniques.

I was PT'ed up to 177-180 right at the very end, and my biggest obstacle on test day was diminished focus due to excess adrenaline. The biggest shock was the time it takes to check everyone in and seat everyone, read instructions, etc, before the test begins. The hour to ninety minutes between when my mind and body went "ok ready to go" and the test began were rough.

That said, perceptions are weird. On PTs, I usually finished logic games -0 with time to spare. I felt I bombed the LG on December's test, having to rush on the last game and making semi-educated guesses on the last 3 or 4 questions. I ended up escaping with a -1, but slipped on some LR, and got a -7 or 94 raw score. Due to the generous curve, this was a 176. Good times.

That said, I believe the scale is not determined by the results of the February test-takers, but by the results on previous experimental sections, possibly with an adjustment if things are way off.

Awesome. Thanks for all the help. And yeff, thanks especially for the heads up regarding the extra time in the beginning. That's definitely going to help to know that. I never even considered it! I imagine you can save a lot of mental energy if you anticipate all the prep work time and don't start getting hardcore too soon.
