Top Law Schools

Is it as many as those who ace GRE or SAT? Or as few as those who ace MCAT? Less than 100 people a year? 50?

I acknowledge that the aforementioned exams are completely different from each other; I'm merely interested in how people are able to completely "master" standarized tests and do exceptionally well.

I think somewhere between 40-60 people get a 180 each year, on average. The top 8 scaled scores (173-180) are the top 1% of scorers each year; compare this with 7% of takers scoring 800 on the GRE Math and the 3% which score 800 on the verbal, and you can see why getting a 180 on the LSAT is a much more difficult task.

Are you making a distinction between a 180 with zero questions missed and one with 1-2 questions missed? There's no information about that.

There's a handy chart floating around that's pretty interesting, it turns out to be around 60 people with 180's per year, I think?

Anyway, the percentiles for a 2400 and 180 are both 99.98%, though that's just based on quick googling so I could be wrong.

Edit: oh, assuming 150,000 people take the test (last year it was 145k I think) there should be 30 180's, not 60. Unless I've screwed up the math.

Wow that is surpriing, that seems high. The interesting questin is how many people can get a 180 consistantly. Probably the majority of that 70 are people who average like a 177-178 and get a 180 occasionally. I wonder how many people out there can nail down a 180 every time.

Not really if you consider that 143,000 people took the exam last year. That's 99.95 percentile.

I really don't think it's possible. LSAC itself admits that an LSAT score is really a +/- 3 probability window. I'd venture that every 180 is from someone who averages high 170s and happened to get lucky on that particular test.

That 145,000 is th number of LSATs administered I thought, not number of unique individual test takers. One reason it is so big is because of the large number of retakes.

Dave Hall has taken it four times. First time he fucked up and got a 179, and he has received 3 consecutive 180's since them. The LSAC will no longer let him sit for the test.

He knocked off after he finally got -0 on the last administration. On each of his previous 180s (in which his scoresheet is posted), he missed at least 1 question. I wonder if he was just obsessing about getting an absolutely perfect score.

So then I'm guessing between 150 and 250 people get 179s?
That makes me feel so prestigious. Then I realize I have a 3.25 GPA

I'm suspicious of his score claims and would like him to produce and publish his official LSAC score report to prove it.

TPR as a company and TPR instructors have for many years been notorious in the LSAT prep biz for lying about instructors officially achieved scores.
I've been teaching and tutoring LSAT in SoCal for over 10 years and am very familiar with the names of most of the big heavy hitters teaching in the area. I'd never heard his name before he recently started his thread here to promote Velocity. It's a TPR spin-off BTW. TPR is again on the verge of bankruptcy and complete financial collapse.

A big difference is that McDs is not facing a real threat that the stock exchanges will delist their shares from trading plus the imminent threat of going bk again.

I've been biting my lip about this info on the study boards for a while since I didn't want to distract December test takers from preparing to kick arse 'Kung Fu style' and give them something more to stress about before the test, but now that December LSAT prep time is finished I couldn't stay silent any longer! Dave is free to comment and talk about this to explain, discuss or dispute things if he wants since it's now the wait several weeks for scores to be released period. I'd be happy to hear what he has to say, especially since he has been using his thread here to basically advertise and promote sales of his products for free to avoid the advertising charges all other companies have to pay.

Also, McD's still has a pretty good value/~$1 items menu. Dave is charging $250 for 10 tests with explanations. That's pretty expensive, especially given all the other stuff available online and in inexpensive self study books, so maybe the Chipotle analogy works somewhat since a standard burrito from there costs ~$8 while you can get basically the same thing at Del Taco or a quality local family run Mexican food place for less than half the price. That's just my .02

You must be near a bad Del Taco or possibly went with something with sour creme in it or the crappy spicy chicken burrito, those suck. The straight up 1lb red or green burritos are great. Same with tostadas, combo burritos with red sauce and soft tacos (chicken or beef). Plus, get plenty of packets of hot sauce, the red ones and the black ones. That stuff is liquid flavor gold.

Yea I read somewhere that the acidity of the orange peel actually detracts from the beer's flavor but they continue to promote the orange peel because its good marketing (looks cool, people like something diff). Blue Moon ain't bad tho for American beer.

Lol, shit just got real in this thread. I knew Dave Hall used to teach for TPR, but I didn't know that Velocity is a TPR spin-off or that TPR often lies about instructor scores. Doesn't TPR already help defray TLS's operating costs, though? If Velocity is a TPR spin-off, Dave Hall should just say so and he'll probably have free rein to promote the company as much as he wants anyway.
