For 2010 cycle, its almost too late NOW, let alone February, and for the 2011 cycle, do yourself a favor, give yourself more time and do it in June.

what about for those who can really raise their scores? I got a 155 in Dec. (worse than my diag, due to nerves, etc.) So I have submitted materials but told schools to wait until my Feb score release. I don't plan on getting money, but think I can get in where I want with where I am testing at now. Thoughts?

The bolded makes little sense as a blanket statement. If you began preparing in NOV/DEC then you have given yourself time. To be honest, I wish I had taken it for the first time in FEB so that that could've been my cancelled score and the jitters and what not would have been gone for JUNE. But I agree with the other half. It makes very little sense for this cycle. The only way it does is if you are using it as a bargaining chip for money and WLs.

Telling a school that you will be taking it in FEB means that they may not review your file until that score comes back, and at that point there are simply very few spots left. Schools with rolling admissions all say that earlier is better and you put yourself at a disadvantage in FEB/MARCH. The admissions landscape is not even across the entire cycle. But, nothing is impossible so good luck.

Plus, regarding "time", I don't think doing in June or February makes a difference. If you fuck up in June and then cancel (Btw, do not EVER keep your score if you feel like you fucked up...I cancelled in Sept. 09 then re-did it Dec. and now I'm happy. A lot of people who took risks aren't.), you can re-do it in September.

Also, do NOT plan to do the LSAT more than twice, and that is assuming you cancel once. It looks bad.

I'm applying in the fall of 2010 and taking the LSAT in February.

1. I started studying at the beginning of last semester and made little progress throughout. I've been able to devote almost the entire winter break to studying and have raised my PT scores from 160-165 to 172-175 in the course of about 3 weeks. I feel ready to take the test today and have grown quite comfortable with the consistency of my daily rhythm. Were I to take the test for the first time in June, finals and research papers would intervene and make it impossible to study for the test as much with this much time remaining before test day as I've been able to.

2. I would rather take the LSAT at a familiar testing center (say, in a room in a building in which I've taken 3-4 classes) than an unfamiliar one. I hope to be interning somewhere this summer, and I'm not yet sure where I'll end up.

3. I'm coordinating my law school applications with the graduate school applications of my SO. The earlier I found out my score (and I may want to retake), the sooner I'll know what law schools I'm capable of getting into, and the sooner she knows which grad schools she should apply to.
