I just wanted to share this information, and from what I've seen in other threads, some people are gravely mistaken about what a withdraw on a transcript means. I just got off the phone with an LSDAS representative and she informed me that if you just have a "W" (withdraw) on your transcript then it does NOT, I repeat, does NOT influence your LSDAS GPA. However, if you have a WF (I assume this means you withdrew from the class because you were failing it?) then it counts as a failing grade.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion!

W = non-punitive withdraw = not counted
WF = punitive withdraw = F = 0.0

Yep. I think I had 7 Ws on my transcript and it didn't affect my LSDAS GPA at all.

I just about had a heart attack at the thought of my 9 W classes from when I had multiple surgeries (and had to take a year off) counting as Fs. I'm still clutching my chest. I'd cry if my 3+ turned into a < 2. I really did think this for a second... I've got to go find my inhaler.

I have a WU (withdraw unsatisfactory) on one of my transcripts and can't get a straight answer on how that will count in my GPA.

The school does NOT consider it a fail, yet I have heard that the extra U will give me an F with LSDAS. (I had dropped out of school, so I have a whole semester of Ws, but one prof decided to be a..hard to get along with..and added a WU. The school recorded what he submitted but simply counted it as non punitive)

Yup, that's the dealio. I had a few W's on my transcripts and they didn't affect me at all. Even WP (withdraw-passing) doesn't affect you negatively... only WF's do.

In the end, you're going to have to wait until LSDAS processes the transcript, but I highly suspect that they're going to count it as an F.

Doesn't that go against what you said above? The school does not consider it a fail, so why would LSDAS?

I am questioning the whole punitive v. nonpunitive issue too. LSDAS says if the school counts it as nonpunitive than it isn't counted. In my case I have two semesters of nonpunitive F's from 13 years ago that do not count. On my transcript they are listed as "excluded" and are not included. How then does LSDAS decide they become punitive?

But even if it doesn't count in the GPA, doesn't the law school still see the grade(As a W) on your transcript and take that into account?

Well, I would imagine HYSCCN may look at it more critically than most, but for the most part, regardless of what they say, it's the end result that matters. And that's what they get to report.

Update: LSAC processed my transcript, and the WU which the school did not count as punitive was NOT counted as punitive by LSAC.

I know this thread is old but what the hell... What about CR (credit/passing), and NC grades from JC? How does the LSDAS take those into account? Anyone?

CR = not counted
NC = F = 0.0 (even if your JC or university doesn't count them toward their GPA)
