Emailing professors before ASD

I"m going to ASD for a school I'm about 80% sure I'll be attending, and there is a particular professor whose work/practice area I'm interested in. Would it be weird to ask to set up a meeting with them during ASD? And how do I go about doing this without seeming like a gunner?

No one (and I mean no one) whose opinion will ever matter gives a shit if you "seem like a gunner". And genuine interest in someone's work and practice area isn't gunner behavior.

I think your best option would be to ask someone at the admissions office if they could put you in touch with the professor. That way, you aren't just some random person e-mailing the professor out of the blue. They may even be able to just arrange the meeting instead of having you and the professor play e-mail tag. I had a school set me up with a similar meeting, but that was when I was visiting on my own, so I'm not sure how much the official schedule of ASW will get in the way.

Thanks, cavalier! You were right and the admissions office at this school did just that!
