Top Law Schools

Hello,

Just curious if it helps to be a current (grad) student at the school when applying to its law school. To be more specific, the programs align (i.e. it's not biology or engineering, etc.) and would actually make sense to be completed in tandem. I can imagine it certainly wouldn't hurt, but does anyone have particular experience with this?

Might help when it comes to "softs." In terms of GPA, only undergraduate matters.

I don't know if people skipped the fact that it is the same school. At some of the top schools, it matters quite a bit if the applicant is an alum or current student.

As the above poster notes, at several top programs it seems to help a fair amount. This is in part because the law school has good reason to think that you'll actually attend if admitted, and because Ph.D program administrators will often make a call on your behalf, as it makes the department's life much easier if you can stay at the school. I'm sure this is also true to some degree of professional school students applying from the same school.
