Top Law Schools

I am an incoming 1L at Duke and am wondering what the prospects for a 1L SA are. I know they're probably low, but I'm wondering to what extent "low" is.... Is it like 5 kids in the class get them? 20%?

What would the 1st semester grade cutoff look like for those who would have a good chance at getting one from a school like Duke?

And anecdotally, the people I know who ended up with non-diversity 1L SAs got them before grades ever came out and based on highly impressive pre-law school credentials. So I mean basically, I wouldn't count on it.

Heard this as well. Also the 10%/1% is a conservative estimate. A student mentor at OCS said it has gone as high as 25%/5%. But yeah, depends on the market and depends on the student.

How about UT 1Ls for TX?

OP, I say this without wanting to sound like an ass or rain on your parade, but really don't count on it. That's not to say you cant get it, but don't treat it as do or die.

these are not as hard to get, although as a general rule any paid position will be harder to get than non-paid positions

when i say harder, i don't necessarily mean based solely on law school grades. prior WE, undergrad, diversity, etc. all matter

Lol sounds hard to me, a KJD with so-so UGPA and no good internships..Do Asians count as diversity when it comes to legal recruiting?

It seemed to be about 15-20% of the class. Things are different in TX

it depends. I think I remember that some positions explicitly said African-American or Hispanic. Most of the time though if it just says "diversity" then you're better off than a white applicant but probably won't get as much of a bump as AA or Hispanic
