It's that simple.
Yup.

Emily: Have you taken the LSAT yet ? If so, what was the result ? I ask because your post suggests that English is not your first language and language skills are very important to the practice of law.

Of course, it is your life & you should decide your future. But an undergraduate business degree followed by a few years of work experience can be highly beneficial when pursuing either an MBA or a law degree.

My impression is that your boyfriend is not trying to "hold you back" from your dreams, but, rather, is sharing his experienced wisdom garnered from completing law school, working as an attorney and from his relationship with you.

So, in answer to your question, you should not "hold your future" for your boyfriend, but you should consider his experienced advice when deciding upon your future course of action.

Thank you for your answer. Yes, english is not my first language, and I haven't took LSAT yet, but that't why I decided to give myself one year preparing LSAT. I want to be attorney and practice the law for my career, but he said if I am not sure what kind of attorney I want to be, I should not go. When he was in law school, he had a clear goal that he wanted to be IP attorney and now he is. I was wondering that does everyone exactly know EVERYTHING about their law career before they go law school? If everyone knows what they gonna do, then what's the point for school that provides pre-law advice? There is nothing wrong to figure it out when you actually in a law school. With my business major background, I think cooperate attorney can be a good choice for me,but he then pointed out that "well, at that time you are 30's, can you handle long working hours while also concerning about your family?" Can women take care of their family well while working as a attorney ? I know I should consider his experienced advice, but what if I regret after not choosing law school in my life?

my BF think he's too old to get marriage after I finish law school...another 5-8 years he has to wait.

No, many, maybe most, law students do not know what area of law they want to practice when entering their first year of law school. Post undergraduate work experience often helps future law students develop an area of interest.

Law school is three years. MBA school is only one year for a person holding a bachelor's degree in business. Of course, you can do both. Many law schools offer a joint JD/MBA degree program. Some of the dual degree programs require just 3 years of study, while others require 4 years in which to earn both degrees.

Much depends upon your standardized test scores; the LSAT for law school & the GMAT or GRE for business schools.

There are two issues here, friend.

First, the impression many of us seem to have gotten is that your boyfriend is perhaps being a bit controlling; this may not be the case, but to me it certainly seems that way, and having any partner try to push you in a direction you don't want to go sucks. If that's happening, beware of that; you have exactly one life; plenty of people live to regret letting someone else persuade them to live it in a way they wouldn't have chosen.

All of that being said, the truth is that objectively -- and not for the reasons your boyfriend gave (or at least that you listed here) -- law school may be a bad idea. Because of the enormous cost and the extremely varied job prospects between schools, it is important that if you choose to go, that you've gotten an excellent LSAT (that year of prep you mentioned is a solid idea), and that you apply to schools which have a very high likelihood of getting you a great job (and preferably will give you scholarship money as well).

It's very easy to say "I support you, but..."; it's harder to say "I support you no matter what." One is real; the other is disingenuous.

Good luck with your decisions! Your boyfriend may be great-- this all may have painted him more harshly than his behavior warrants. Remember, though: you're life. Not his.

Do you agree with the timeline your SO has laid out? Because there's absolutely no reason why you can't get married in law school or in your first few years of working. Whether you should go to law school is one question, but there's no reason why law school has to completely dictate your relationship timeline. (You probably want to avoid getting married in the middle of 1L finals, or right before taking the bar exam, but while there are better and worse times during law school/your early career, there's no reason you can't find a time.)

Whether it's worth it to go to law school is one thing, but it shouldn't have to have almost anything to do with when you want to get married.

I agree with Nony and Ron Mexico - why do you necessarily have to wait 5-8 years before you get married? Why not during law school?

Lol at practicing lawyers telling her not to go to law school. You may have a point but you sound like such hypocrites.

Wedding needs to be planned....he doesn't think we would have time to do it during law school.
