Early Decision

Hey Guys!

So, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I received an acceptance e-mail from a Tier II school a few days ago with a full ride scholarship. While I am pleased with this, I also realized that this school's early decision option is binding and if I don't submit the deposit by mid-January, I could lose the scholarship and/or admission. My question is this, knowing that I goofed, should I contact the admissions office, explain my wrong doing, and see what my options are? Or, just roll with it, see how other schools respond and hope that by mid-January I have a solid idea of where I would like to go? Thanks for any insight!

So, let me get this straight ... you applied "early decision" to this school, it's binding, but now you want out? I guess I can't say for sure, not knowing this school in particular, but I'm pretty certain you're SOL. Generally, if a school's early decision is binding, that means you must attend and you must withdraw your other applications. Period. You can't just "roll with it" to see how other schools respond. They will drop you once they realize you violated your ED contract. I'm imagine there is some way out of your obligation to attend, but you'll almost certainly have to wait until next cycle to attend another school. At least this is my understanding.

+1

From my understanding, if you made a mistake you could alter it any time before you get accepted, but after they issue an acceptance it's too late. You can ask, that never hurts, but I seriously doubt they'd let you off.
