Top Law Schools

A little background: I had a vague idea of law school/legal employment prior to last summer.. As a result I wasn't aiming for a top school and was shooting for a local regional. I took the June 2014 LSAT got a 154. Planned on sitting for Dec 2014 retake but got busy with school.

Now with that said: especially knowing the level of effort needed to pull off a 170+ ( which I was later PTing at when I was practicing after the June take......I was a bit of a late bloomer in LSAT studies, it took 4/5 months for me to finally get the hang of it).......how sure do I need to be law school is the right option for me before deciding to retake the LSAT?

My concern is not so much doing the hard work needed to pull off a 170, but rather I could be doing something else/if I took but decided not to go later, then its wasted time

I do not plan on arbitrarily locking myself into law school at any point: for instance if I got a 170+, or got a great acceptance/scholly offer I would nto feel compelled to go to law school

As a note: I doubt I would need nearly the same time commitment the second time around ...but nevertheless there still is a big time investment that I want to consider before re-taking the LSAT

After August 2014 I did very minimal studying once I got busy ( only LG)...and in Dec got a 171 on a practice

From Dec to Feb- no studying at all ... but scored in the 166-168 range on cold PTs in Feb.

Even if using the more conservative 166-168 range....I wouldn't nearly need the same amount of practice time as my first try around studying for the exam ( started at a 145 diag my first time).

You need to decide if you want to be a lawyer or not. Law isn't just an advanced degree for people who don't know what to do with their life.

Options:

1) You decide that you dont want to be a lawyer. Great. You dont need to worry about the LSAT and you can go out and pursue something else.
2) You decide you want to be a lawyer. Great. Study for the LSAT like a mad man to get $$$$ from a regional or a T14 - whatever your goals are.

In other words, you need to go all in.

So you would not take the time between the LSAT and applying to figure out if that is for sure what i wanted to do ( since LSAT scores are valid for 5 years, I was somewhat contemplating taking for that reason, getting a score and then working for a bit).

No I don't plan on going as far to actually attend law school unless I was certain I wanted to be a lawyer

Of course you could take the lsat and take some time to decide after. Nothing is stopping you.

You sound very indecisive, which is understandable. But you really need to figure this out for yourself. Tls can't make this decision for you. Good luck.

In terms of LSAT scores, it depends on where you would like to apply specifically. Some law schools have certain minimum requirements regarding LSAT scores, while others may not. Before determining if you want to retake the exam, it is best to decide what schools you are interested in applying to and compare your score to their admission statistics. This will give you a better idea as to what your next step should be.

My indecisiveness stems from a complicated situation.....I will need LSAT accommodations not just to enter law school but so I can take the bar exam with accommodations in order to practice law.

My real concern is since LSAC is a bit more stringent than the GRE for accommodations, I am somewhat fearful of missing out on enjoying my last bit of experience in college.

This is my fear since it happened in 2014 for the Dec LSAT : I was denied accommodations, but LSAC made a few mistakes on my file ( They were unwilling to go back and look at the mistakes they had made)

I think I'm better off enjoying the last semester of college than taking the risk of being denied accommodations. ( as an aside I'd be more likely to take the LSAT if I wasn't running this risk)
