Top Law Schools

Has anyone got accepted with a big scholarship, didn't go, then reapplied next year for the same school to deny/reduce your scholarship?

asking for purposes of highly considering time off to retake

My scholarship offers were the same or better (higher LSAT) when I reapplied. Hope that helps.

That is what I thought. It is very difficult to try to explain to my parents that law school's won't be like "fuck you for applying again and not taking our scholarship the first time"

They're not going to care. The only thing that I think can make a difference would be if the school's ranking improved/declined, which may impact what they're willing to offer you. But I wouldn't worry about that. Kick ass on a retake and the $$$ will come.

I disagree. Getting the same or better offers with a higher LSAT doesn't say anything about what happens when you reapply with the same numbers.

people have posted on here within the past year after getting lower offers when reapplying with the same numbers, and I think that makes sense.

As previously mentioned, unless a school raises or lowers their desired stats, they're probably going to offer similar $ to students with the same #s one year to the next. So if you decided not to attend when they offered that $ the first time, they have no reason to think you'll attend for that price when you reapply. That seems like a riskier bet for them, and I can understand why they'd back off.

If you reapply with the same numbers (especially with the legit possibility of higher applications/ more high scorers this year), I wouldn't expect to do the same or better. I'd expect it to be a little bit more of a crapshoot.

I thought LSAT takes and apps were down across the board?

I didn't figure it was worthwhile to assume OP was going to take a year off and have the same numbers. My responses are under the assumption that the year off will aid in improving the LSAT score.

If you are happy with your current offer, just take it. If you would not be happy either starting law school now or at the school you are referring to, take a year off. I'm sure you could pull off similar options even if they are at different schools. No sense reapplying if you would be happy, but also no sense in not reapplying if you would not be happy with what you currently have.

I don't feel my school aligns with my goals. T2 but hoping for biglaw, inhouse, fed clerk, or gov

The past two LSAT administrations (FEB,JUNE) have both increased from the previous year. If October (the most popular administration) has a similar increase than most likely apps will be on the rise, but not prolly by a significant amount it won't be like say 2009-2011ish levels

Here's a thread where a lot of folk discussed it, basically they are anticipating a slight increase or at the very least not a decrease for this upcoming cycle. The medians of some T14 law schools LSATs might drop a point though so that's good news.

Probably depends upon how early or late one applies during the current cycle since scholarship money available decreases as the application cycle progresses & whether applications are up or down in number for that application cycle. Also, as noted above by another poster, if a law school has dropped in the rankings, scholarships may be more generous to increase medians.
