It's not your fault that one of your LOR writers messed up your LOR. If you're up front about this, you should be fine. If you hide this, they may or may not find out, but if they find out, you have a problem. Personally, I'd run this by a counselor at your current school and see if they have any advice for you.

Yeah, OP, I would disclose this for sure. It should not be counted against you. Always err on the side of disclosure with shit like this.

I would just try to get another LOR.

My current school has a Tier 4 law school and in times prior, when I've been mandated to go to academic counseling when signing up for courses, I was told I was unrealistic, even when I disclosed my LSAT score. The Tier 4 gives no substantial scholarship money. I was accepted to good schools the first time I applied (with some good scholarship packages), despite the LOR (the person wrote an altered version of it for an outside scholarship foundation. I was asked to explain the discrepancy and after I did, I was selected for funds. I know it's not my fault, but I was just wanting to know how this would affect matters of the bar), but when I imparted this to the counselor (professor) in question, I learned she shared it with others in the break room and several people laughed and asked if I had mental issues. That being said, I would not consult with services at my undergrad ever again.

But I will disclose this. I just wanted to know what to do regarding it. I am also throwing this letter out and replacing it with one written by my boss when I send applications in this September. Thanks, all.

Disclose what? That your LOR confused your race? There is no problem for the bar, none at all.

If it is a legit LOR (he actually stepped up to the plate for you in the letter) let him know you aren't MA and I'm sure he'll feel inclined to submit an edited one.

No! He either got OP confused with another student, was too lazy to ask OP what ethnicity he was and made an assumption, flat-out lied for OP as a favor (whether solicited or unsolicited), or relied on OP's UG file, which contained that misrepresentation.

I'm wondering where this recommender might have gotten the idea that OP was "MA". Maybe OP's file... They can access just about any information about any student, you know.

Something doesn't smell right. Forgive me if I am wrong, but it sounds as if OP had been getting over on race in the past and started to roll with it for law school. After careful consideration of the C&F process, he got cold feet and wants to play it honest now.

I'm not saying this actually happened, but this reads like one of those stories.

If OP has been misrepresenting himself as MA since he graduated high school - not an unusual occurrence - he's in deep trouble, because it will be discovered.

I hope it isn't the case, but the scenario I raise is far more common than OP's. OP could be telling the truth, but the story just doesn't completely pass the smell test.

This was my vague definition of "legit" lor. According to OP, the prof could have assumed OP was MA based on physical appearance. If the letter is better than average, simply ask the prof to edit it. If the letter is mediocre scrap it
