School asking where else I've been accepted to

Post by laballermvp9 » Sun Jul 13, 2014 9:50 pm

I had a waitlist interview the other day and the school asked me to name the schools I've been accepted to. I was wondering why schools would like to know this information?

If you got into a better school they may ding you

Yield is part of the rankings game it's as simple as that

acceptance rate, rather than yield rate, features as 2.5% of a school's ranking, but it amounts to the same thing. they don't want to admit you if you won't go.

When I was asked this question in an interview, I gave a vague response (something about applying broadly and still hearing back and many opportunities) and then turned it around to why I thought School X stood out from other schools.

I'm not sure it's ever in your benefit to give a specific list of your other choices, until you're admitted and negotiating a scholarship.
