Is YHS really just YH?

The Supreme Court is entirely made up of HLS and YLS grads. The President of the US is an HLS grad. The legal director of the ACLU is an HLS grad. "Unicorn" positions always seem to be held by HLS and YLS grads. Is Stanford Law School really represented in the tippy-top of legal success?

Obviously a Stanford Law degree will get you a great job in California, but how is SLS in the same tier as YLS/HLS?

HLS has a much larger class size. ~double the size of SLS. The diploma mill churns out so many lawyers that the likelihood of producing BIGFAME is higher

I have also read that about 50 years ago SLS was more or less considered a regional school. Granted 50 years is a long time but so is the difference between being considered a regional school and YLS/HLS.

There has also been a huge boom in the population of California (Population is about 1.5x what it was just 30 years ago, an era that still boasts practicing attorneys and professionals). So since SLS alumni's careers may be lagging a little bit do to demographics.

I agree that this is mostly a matter of class sizes (with regard to HLS) and YLS continued dominance in the legal field.

Yeah Stanford is a relatively young school. Even 1987 rankings went like this:
1 Harvard
1 Yale
3 Michigan
4 Columbia
4 Stanford

Now Stanford sends 30% of students to federal clerkships, which beats out Harvard by a large margin and absolutely crushes CCN.

HLS lets in anyone with the numbers. And it's too big to be elite. Biglaw is littered with HLS grads.

Agreed. SLS is a strong regional school. You should go only if the school offers you a substantial scholarship, and you should attend only if you're willing to work in the Palo Alto metro area after graduation.

Judging an entire law school by the quality of %0.01 of it's graduates is a recipe for disastrous reasoning. The Vice President went to Syracuse Law, but fuck me before I'd tell anyone to attend there. Stanford provides comparable opportunities for it's graduates to Harvard and Yale (some would say better than H due to clerkship numbers), whether it be grade threshold necessary for certain firms, connections with federal gov't positions and judges, ect. That's the important metric when considering a school - where it can take you at what cost.

You cherry-picked a few selections and called it game set. I could list a whole roster of stanford law (or, for that matter, Virginia, Berkeley, ect. law) graduates in the highest echelon of the profession - hell, the current SEC chairwoman, US attorney general, the secretary of homeland security, energy, ect ect all went to CLS. The chief general counsel of basically every important tech company in America is or has been a stanford grad, including Ebay and Google today, among others.

The first statement isn't even true of the current court, and only a short while ago Sandra Day O'Connor (Stanford law grad) sat on the court as one of it's most prominent and prolific members.

I'd bet on the next President going with an underdog T2 school. Gotta show some love to the legal proletariat.

Interestingly, VP & General Counsel of Apple, Bruce Sewell, is a GW Law grad. Maybe the best exception.

ACLU LEGAL Director is HLS, but EXECUTIVE Director is SLS grad.

If you are comparing just those three schools, then it's really just H. if you look at employment stats (Law School Transparency), Harvard grads have the best outcomes on average, in spite of the large class sizes.

If we're comparing stupid unicorn outcomes, I'd rather be Peter Theil than any SOCTUS justice.

Obama almost did it (and he would have done a great job if his work on the 9th is any indication).
