$47,000/year for in-state tuition is what happened. Anyone considering paying that needs to have his/her damn head examined. As a result, class sizes and LSAT/GPA medians have decreased substantially recently.

But how come now it ranks 54th in us news ranking, has 30% employment rate for graduates in 9month, and has an average private sector salary of 90000? I cannot find any article online regardin its decline.
It still makes the list of Top 50 though for some rankings

But yea I think high tuition is a factor. Plus SF Market is super tough.

but tuition has similarly risen at berkeley and UCLA...in fact, it's currently even higher at berk and ucla than it is at hastings. the rise in tuition alone can't explain hastings' decline.

also, the highest hastings ever rose was #19 on usnwr, which might have been pretty good back in the golden age of the law, but #19 still isn't "TOP."

Definitely concur on the tuition not being the only reason. The club of 65 was a big deal for Hastings back then too. The law school still holds significant prestige in california and certainly in the Bay Area for practice ready and such. It's Moot Court team is very accomplished.

California got fucked. Total financial ruin, that's what happened.

Practice ready? Every stupid law school in this country (with the possible exception of Yale) prides itself on its clinical programs, externships, the "tools" it teaches its students to be practice ready.

Moot court? Do you even know what that is?

Lay prestige? Do lay people get you a legal job?

All that stuff is marketing bro. Stop drinking the Kool Aid.

Bagel Boy nailed it. CA took a dive and hasn't really recovered. The UC system took a dive as well. There are way too many law schools in CA, not enough entry level legal jobs. Hastings may be a T2 school or whatever but its employment statistics are TTT/TTTT level. And its ridiculously expensive and the school is very stingy with financial aid. Stay far, far away.
