Top Law Schools

I want to go to Vanderbilt. I can live with family and stay in-state. I didn't apply to any other schools. But I still want to get the best scholarship I can. How do i negotiate without other options?

You need leverage to negotiate well. If you don't have leverage youre just begging.

You could say that if its too expensive you wont be able to attend, I guess.

i guess i could apply to the university of tennessee just for the purposes of negotiating. they did give me a fee waiver.

if it matters, i went to school for undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt.

Apply to everything in the T15-20 range, even if you have no intention of going. You need other offers to work with. It's a pain in the ass, but worth it even if you only get a token increase. Worst case scenario is probably a 1k a year token increase. Do you have an easier way to make three grand than filling out applications?

It generally needs to be a peer school to provide negotiating power. Apply to places like Emory, WUSTL, GW, Texas, etc.

You never raised with 7-2 off-suit before?

UT is pretty stingy with scholarships for in state. You would also need to apply to comparable (T1/upper T2) schools in order to gain leverage for negotiations.

Unfortunately, it does not. It might actually make it more difficult because they don't need to entice you to the school with money because you already show interest by attending for UG.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I ended up applying to a few of the recommended schools.

Even if you dont get much money from UT-K, you can still negotiate citing COA
