Is the JD/MBA worth it

Does the JD/MBA make you that much more employable? What kind of positions are exclusively for JD/MBA graduates and how much do they pay? Is this degree as good as an MBA? How valuable is just the MBA right now?

This isn't a yes or no question. It depends on each person.

You generally end up using the JD or the MBA, so for most jobs, I think it's not worth the time/money. But the schools at which a JD/MBA makes most sense are Harvard, Stanford, Penn, Chicago, Northwestern, Columbia, and possibly NYU.
Good luck at TJSL btw.

Neither degree is worthless. The school of law turns 50% of students in the class into lawyers. If the graduate school did the same then you would think you have a 75% chance of employment. However, I doubt business is suffering the same way so I suspect the business degree might be worth it for many students - maybe 50% of those who take the program. The employment rate hardly increases as you climb the tiers and yet it becomes much more competitive. Cardozo for example turns 50% of the class into lawyers and Fordham only creates 65% yet the numbers at fordham are so much more competitive. The 25th percentile at Fordham could be expected to place at median at Cardozo and be in a better position to get a job.

This is a good point. Since a JD/MBA gives you a 75% chance of employment, I think it makes sense to get a JD/MBA/PhD, which will give you an 87.5% chance of employment.

Assuming a 50% chance of employment with a PhD yeah. There is no reason to believe that a law student would have a lesser chance than the rest of the class at finding employment with an MBA.
What I am trying to determine in this thread is: the rate of employment in the field of applicants with MBA's and the rate of employment for those with low tier MBA's.
I suspect that the rate of employment is higher since the legal field has been hit worse by the recession.

Why would you assume that employability as a lawyer and employability as an MBA are independent?
Can someone permaban for general pointlessness/stupidity/failure to troll well?

nah bro your math is all wrong
so if you have a 50% chance of being a lawyer coming out of law school, and a 50% chance of being employed as a business person with an MBA, and a 60% chance of being an academic with a PhD, you'd have an 160% chance of being employed as one of those three, which actually means you'd be employed in the past as anything >100% diminishes the closer you get to x-date.
ill give you an example of an interview a jd/mba/phd/ms/mpa had recently
applicant: so can i have this job
interviewer: what do you mean you've had this job for almost two years here is your check
applicant: whoa

How are you going to get a JD/MBA when TJSL is a stand alone law school?

so if you have a 50% chance of being a lawyer coming out of law school, and a 50% chance of being employed as a business person with an MBA, and a 60% chance of being an academic with a PhD, you'd have an 90% chance of being employed as one of those three.
Having more degrees does give you a higher chance of finding employment.

Yeah but the same applicant. The traits - resume, personality, interview skills - that make you (un)employable with a JD are the same things that will make you (un)employable with an MBA.

You guys have the math wrong.
50% employment for JD + 50% employment for MBA = 100% jerb. See? It's a fail-safe plan!
