Checked URM for NYU so that I could add my DS

I already submitted my application.
I checked NYU's URM box, not really understanding what URM meant (I am a minority), but really wanting to add my diversity statement to my application.
Now, belatedly, looking through the TLS consensus of URM, I realize I don't qualify as one and that I shouldn't have checked the box.
Is this a problem? Should I contact them and let them know? Will this hurt my chances of acceptance by making me seem disingenuous?

You're fine IF you didn't box-check any races you actually weren't. Then you'd be in fairly big trouble.

*whew* only checked the background boxes for what I actually am!

There's no URM box, so I'm not sure what you checked. As long as you checked the races that apply to you, you're good.
Also, you don't need to be a URM to submit a diversity statement.

Out of curiosity, how would law schools even go about verifying race? To quantify one's racial composition by means of appearance is not the most reliable means of identification.

It would be more of an issue for the bar examiners, but if you've identified consistently all the way through you shouldn't have problems.

There's no URM box, so I'm not sure what you checked.
There is on NYU's app. It specifically asks you to list any underrepresented groups you may be part of in the legal world, and if you check "I am an underrepresented group" they let you submit a diversity statement regardless of what you typed in the box.
It's weird and dumb, but whatever. It's not going to hurt OP at all.

Haha, this is probably something I should know. But anyway, I think underrepresented group is different from URM.
