In general, will older editions of textbooks work?

The class is calling for the 9th edition of a textbook and I am looking at the 8th edition on Amazon right now for 2 bucks. Just wondering if in your experiences, going with an older textbook has made much of a difference. I'm sure it boils down to the teacher, but jw.

It depends. Some revisions are significant and some aren't. Just buy the $2 book and compare it to a copy of the latest edition in your school's library.
