Hi guys,

I'll be starting school in about 2 weeks, and I'm wondering what to wear for orientation week

Would a suit and bow-tie be overdoing it? I was thinking about maybe scaling it back to a regular tie, but I'm not sure. I don't want potential classmates / competitors to think I'm sloppy

Thoughts?

Contrary to popular belief, this is very important. I'd say you can't go wrong with business professional. I remember during our first day of orientation someone wore jeans and a t-shirt and we never saw that guy again. Rumor has it that his admission was rescinded because of his sloppy appearance - something about him not taking legal education seriously. Moreover, I also heard that he didn't get a refund on his tuition either, except for the grand the school gave him to buy a suit and some decent dress shirts, shoes, and ties.

I hope my school has a similar policy. I wouldn't want my future alma mater to have a reputation for allowing slackers with jeans to show up and expect to be taken seriously. We're studying the law to become professionals and ipso facto should learn to present ourselves that way from day 1

At this point I'm leaning more towards the bowtie again. Better to be safe than sorry

Don't forget the cumberbun... also, I wish our orientation lasted a whole week, but we only get two days to show off our 19th century dress

You're selling yourself short if you don't at least consider a monocle. Plus, if you pick it up on the cheap you have more cash left over for other 1L essentials... Like mustache wax.

I would go with an ascot instead of a bowtie.

Pocket Squares in every color are also essential. You don't want to be unprepared, do you?

Nothing in 1L matters--not how you dress, not how many friends you have, not what activities you partake in-- other than 1L grades. And 1L grades are not determined by how you dress in class, in orientation, anywhere.

Friends, clothing, activities are only icing on the cake; the cake being 1L grades. So wear whatever you want.

I wore jeans. Still here. I guess it's hard to get rid of me? I also had hair that was about 2 and half feet long. Good times.

I got an email from my school saying we have to show up in morningdress or they will rescind our admissions offer.

It's been a while since I got to bust out dat cap and tails, looking forward to it.
