Top Law Schools

I'm a 0L but I have several friends who swear by the Black's Law Dictionary app, and it's usually $54.99 but the iPhone app is on sale today for $26.99. It went on sale for one day last June, so this sale will probably end late tonight. Unfortunately, the android and windows phone apps aren't on sale, just the iPhone app. I downloaded it and it looks really useful, so I wanted to let you guys know about the sale.

(I'm thinking about getting an iPad for note taking in LS and my techy brother says I'll be able to download the iPad app from the cloud if I already bought it once)

On a slightly unrelated note, someone gifted me a hardcopy of Black's law dictionary. As a 0L I have no idea how useful this will be, should I keep it or sell it? Is the app going to be all I need?

You can get Black's for free through Westlaw as a student, so seems silly to pay for it.

Please don't tell me anyone is dumb enough to pay for something like this...

How often do you use Black's Law Dictionary in law school?

Purchasing Black's is absolutely unnecessary for law school. If you need to research the meaning of a word, a quick Google search will give you the definition. Actually, you'll probably find there are very few words you actually have to look up. Also, I think you have free access to Black's on WestLaw.

I have been out of law school for three years. I've never even looked inside Black's law dictionary.

I bought that stupid thing in hardbound form on the recommendation of a friend and never looked at it once

I'm looking at my hard copy of Black's Law Dictionary right now - across the room in a dusty corner of my apartment. Got it as a gift before 1L and didn't open it even once during the year.

Never.

Wow. That is awesome. I am really tempted to get an iPhone just to get this app.

Black's Law Dictionary is sometimes useful. No need to buy the app or even the book, but there are times when it can make sense to refer to it and, on rare occasion, even to cite to it.
