Top Law Schools

So I realize that chances at Big Law depend on a lot of factors, such as interviewing skills, grades, etc. But if anybody could give me an idea of what the likelihood of making Big Law is for T14 graduates in the current market that would be really helpful.

Duke should be higher since it is rocking the biglaw placement stats very consistently.

can't speak to (1) and (2) but once you venture in to the (3) and (4) zone, biglaw placement is pretty much equal. the difference is that a school like P might place "better" into biglaw because students there tend to be more interested in biglaw, while B might look worse than it really is because lots are interested in public interest. (i don't know if these conclusions are necessarily true but that's why i'd hesitate to draw inferences about placement based on % biglaw placement data)

you also have to think about what your skills are. if you're a great interviewer but a so-so test taker you may be better off avoiding a school like V because they don't have a lottery system for interviewing. (this was true a few years ago, not sure if it still is). and strangely, some schools benefit from having a tiny class size--some biglaw firms will want to have a good mix of students from top schools, so you can get the same placement (for example, DC biglaw) at NU from median as you can with GULC from top 1/3.

basically it all comes down to what you want and what your skills are. the differences among schools do matter, but perhaps not in the straightforward way that most think.

If we were to substitute "biglaw" for gainful legal employment in a law firm/clerkship (51+ employees, fed clerkships (state clerkships? naww)), the schools would shuffle I think...

HYS, T13, G. Those are the only tiers that matter. Anybody who tells you T10 or T6 is a thing goes to Michigan or NYU.

The tiers are a myth. They change from year to year as 0Ls myopically fixate on the most recent US News and NLJ 250 report. During my cycle, Virginia was the best thing ever and Berkeley was on its way out of the T14. Now we've got posters putting Virginia in a subtier below Berkeley. It's nonsense.
