I went to Mexico in December. That is not even worth 50 cents. I can only buy a piece of gum with that amount of money.

I don't know about anyone else, but I couldn't see myself doing about 95% of the jobs on that list. Very few of those jobs would make me happy. Unfornuately, if I do not get to specialize in the area of law in which I want, I don't think I will be happy as an attorney. One of the worst parts of most professional jobs in America is the time committment that is required at them.

Very few people actually like their jobs. You know that, right?

If you hold out for happiness, you will likely fall short. Find something you can tolerate and find happiness outside of the workplace.

Hm, should I question my sanity if my current job is in the top40 of this list and I'm planning on going to law school? (Here I wanted to say that ranking doesn't matter, then I remembered how revered law school rankings are).

I would question your sanity if you relied on an arbitrary list that some journalist (one of the worst jobs on the list, remember?) cooked up to tell you what you should be doing with your life.

Pilots have it bad bro. Average starting salary for a regional airlines is around 20k. That with a ton of debt.

ETA: Not to mention pilots have opportunities for career advancement. At my security gig they had the wage schedule on the office wall--how much you could expect to be paid after a certain time and/or promotions. I think it was meant to motivate us, but what it taught me was that if I stayed there for ten years and got promoted twice I'd make $17/hour, and realistically I'd have shot myself in the throat long before that.

My best friend is in Texas right now getting the commercial license. What's killing him right now is ALL THE flying HOURS he needs to accumulate before he is even considered for a 25k a year job at an airline! By the time he gets the hours he'll have 100k+ in debt (and thats on the lower end). Airlines are paying pilots miserable salaries while CEOs are making hundred of millions, then they go bankrupt and we bail them out (this is one example why I don't think it's outrageous for partner who is bringing big money to a firm to earn 800k/year).

He is avoiding at all cost joining the military, and he is constantly searching for opportunities in South America were pilots start flying at the age of 21. Emirates Airlines is another options he's been looking at because they pay their pilots good money plus a ton of benefits. So, I would concur with you that being a pilot is better than being a mall cop but the market for them in the US sucks even more than for lawyers right now.

My friend who's in the process is mitigating that somewhat by teaching--he's got his small plane commercial license (not sure of all the levels or terms, but I know he needs a lot more hours for the large plane license) so he has an assistant teaching gig with the school where he's getting his license; he helps teach the new students, gets hours, and keeps his debt down.

That said, you're correct that the entry-level pilot market sucks. It just sucks significantly less than being a rent-a-cop.

I mean, rent-a-cop sucks, but not in absolute terms. It's an easy fucking job, just annoying with shit pay. A skilled job with awful hours, worse job prospects, with the same shitty pay I would say is objectively worse.

This is the most ridiculous job ranking list I have ever seen. Not even worth reading. I currently do a job that is higher than 150 on this list...and I know a lot of people doing other jobs ranked much higher. Most of the people I know who are doing my job are happy...as I am. I can't say that about most other people I know in other professions. Having a job that you don't hate can't be over-rated. I'm starting law school as a non-traditional in the fall, so I've been in the job market for quite awhile. If anyone changes their career path based on this list, they deserve to be a mall cop.

Perusing this list was interesting, especially the incomes. Aside from medical professions, attorneys rank very well. No idea that as a first year I might be earning more than the judge. Maybe this LS thing isn’t so bad after all. I guess of all the dollar an hour gigs, chauffeuring might be the best of the worst jobs.
