Clerkship in my 1L to secure a SA for the 2L

I'm attending Pitt Law in the fall. As of right now, I'm volunteering for a man that is running for Court of Common Pleas in the upcoming election cycle. If he wins (he's polling 4th and 4 are chosen), then I am expecting to secure a judicial clerkship with him for my 1L summer. My question, does the judicial clerkship I anticipate receiving during my 1L make me much more appealing to big law firms in Pittsburgh for my 2L, or should I pursue another avenue to secure the coveted 2L summer associate gig? Thank you all!

"judicial internship"
Also big firms don't really care what you do 1L summer as long as it's legal

Clerking = paid, prestigious, impressive work done after you graduate.
Interning = unpaid bitches for the clerks.
As to your question - it's certainly not a bad thing. But it's not an 'in' to a 2L SA. You could RA for a prof, or work in public interest, or any number of things - they'd be the same in terms of helping you get a 2L SA. Do something legal and get amazing grades.
The only 'in' is doing a 1L SA with a firm, and doing well.
