How much does lay prestige matter?

Does lay prestige make a law school like Duke more appealing to potential employers than University of Michigan, for example? (Assuming Duke has more lay prestige than UM)...How much does lay prestige matter of your law school (undergrad prestige, taken would be taken into account) in the law world? Or do lawyers have a sense of the rankings and how Cornell may have more lay prestige but is a lower ranked law school than Michigan or UVA?

. . . but seriously, just go to the school in the market in which you would like to work

I'm fairly certain lawyers in the law field have a good sense of the quality of law schools and their law teaching ability. Law.

This doesn't make much sense for some of the T14 -- going to Michigan/Duke != wanting to work in Michigan/NC

Seriously, just look at employment stats and see if you find a discernible pattern (there seem to be fairly few differences in hiring patterns between MVPBDCN and maybe a bit of a drop at G).

Define employers. Smaller firms won't care. Larger firms will care more about ranking.
