If applying in 2 consec. cycles, do I need to get new LORs?

Hi guys, say if I apply during the 2012-2013 cycle and then again in the 2013-2014 cycle, will I need to get brand new letters of recommendations? Or can I just re-use the same ones that I used for the first cycle? Thanks!

You can re-use them. I did and had no problems.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! Does it differ for each school though? Or in general do most schools (particularly the better ones) accept this?

I haven't heard of any school denying repeat LORs. They're aware that plenty of candidates reapply and what not. You'll be fine.

I was in the same situation a couple years ago. I called LSAC and they said you can reuse them. I did reuse mine and was accepted to schools I was rejected from during my first application cycle (I pulled my LSAT score up by five points). They do "expire" after a certain number of years, but you will be fine for consecutive admission cycles. I did change my personal statement though.

UPenn seems to recommend getting new LORs, but I don't know if this is the case for other schools.

I refreshed one of them. I asked my supervisor at the time to write a new one to capture some of the work I had done in the intervening year. But if you have no major updates to report, then I think it's perfectly fine to re-use your old LORs.

You are applying in this cycle with the intention of applyling next cycle?

uhh yes. If I have to re-take in Dec. and end up applying really late in the cycle and don't get in anywhere decent, then the plan is to re-apply.

I called the schools and asked them if they would prefer new LORs. I explained that because I am now a few years removed from undergrad my new LORs would mostly be employment based. Every single school told me that reusing the old LORs would be just fine. You can always call and ask, but if you don't feel like doing that then I would assume you are just fine :).

You could reuse them or get new ones to include new information. It isn't super crucial.
