generally, how long does it take to hear back from schools once you submit an application? For example, If I submit late october.

Depends on the school. Read the previous year's application thread.

Depends on the school and depends on your app. If you're a clear in or out, you could hear soon, but if you're a middle-of-the-pack candidate for the school, they'll likely wait until they see more apps before sending admission and rejection letters. In that case, you might not hear till the new year and maybe even March/April.

i think if you ED then you hear back relatively quick, depending on when you submitted it. but as others typed above, check old applicants/ denials/ threads for each school and Law School Numbers to give yourself a rough timeframe.
most schools have different policies, so you have to check each school. SOme schools dont start looking at applications until november/ december. Generally, the sooner you apply the earlier you hear back. Welcome to waiting. get used to it, because after waiting is a major theme of law school ( wait to hear- wait to get your schedule, wait a month or more to get your grades- wait to to OCI- wiat to hear back.. and so on and so forth)
