you apply ED for a binding ED program, and then realize you would like to attend law school elsewhere following acceptance?
or
you apply to more than one binding ED program (and get accepted to more than one)?

Either way you are breaking a binding contract, which can't look good for C&F when you try to pass the bar.

I believe there was someone a while ago who got blackballed from law schools over violations of the ED process

This is correct. Not a good idea. You should either attend the school you ED to, or you can trying getting the ED school to let you out of the binding contract. They may be okay with this is you explain why. If you applied to more than one, that just looks shady

+1
I want to ED to UVA and Michigan (possibly Northwestern) simply because of the unpredictable nature of URM splitter's application cycles; however, I also am not in the business of being without a job due to my disrespect of binding contracts.
Oh and just for clarification, what are the ramifications of being blackballed from other law schools if you have been accepted (ED), and committed, to the one that you want to attend? And I'm not being sarcastic.

If I remember correctly, the kid had
all his offers withdrawn

Don't do it. If you really want to ED to multiple schools, there's an ordered list of them in which to do it. The consequences are too dire to risk. Admissions offices communicate regularly.

Ordered list? Where can I find that?

First off, I was joking dude.
I think what basilseal means is that UVA will get back to you fairly quickly, within two weeks, with a decision. Once you get that back, if you are waitlisted or rejected then you can go apply ED elsewhere.

Thanks, I did not articulate that well. UVA and Duke (I believe) both have guaranteed response times, so you can hear back from them with enough time to ED elsewhere if you don't get in. Of course, if you're accepted then that's that.
Again, DO NOT ED to multiple schools as the same time. You will probably be discovered and blackballed.
